I Heart U,
enough for a 20% off sale
Valentine's day always makes me wonder, was who was the saint who lovingly gave out red roses and chocolate dipped candies? As one of the lucky ladies that's on the receiving end of delicious gifts from my hubby I probably shouldn't question it. But to rule out the possibility of a corporate conspiracy engineered by flower and candy tycoons I finally looked into it,  so for anyone who's interested here's the back story...

We don't have any shows right now but,

So anyhow, it seems that Saint Valentine was not just one man, but probably one of many martyred saints named Valentine or Valentinus, derived from the Latin word for valor. They are believed to have been martyred on February 14.
Legend has it that in the 3rd century, the Roman emperor Claudius II banned marriages to prevent draft dodgers. Only single men went into the army and they needed a few good men. Supposedly a Christian priest named Valentinus of Rome ignored the ban, continuing to marry lovers in secret.
Valentinus was caught and sentenced to death,
you guessed it- on February 14.
There are quite a few different stories, but to tie this all somehow into the romantic day we all know I'll go with the priest named Valentinus who, while jailed fell in love with his jailer's daughter. His final love note was said to be signed, "from your Valentine."

The holidays are here,

Can you believe it?! This year has flown by so fast for us that I feel like I'm just coming out of hibernation, just when I should be finding a warm spot to cozy up in!
In the Northeast this weekend is our favorite holiday show with the
Vermont Handcrafters at the Sheraton in South Burlington Vermont. Come and see the huge selection of fine Vermont gifts and support your crafty
friends and neighbors.

The show hours are Thursday and Friday 12-8pm, Saturday 10-6pm and Sunday 10-5pm. We are showing our support for
Trees for Troops by donating ornaments and running a sale at the show. If you purchase and donate one of our lovely little trees you'll get 10% off your entire purchase at our booth!

You can also take advantage of the 10% off sale on anything online at Novation Glass by entering the code TREE at checkout. Help bring a little holiday spirit halfway across the globe to those that can't be with their families this year.

Three states and three
great events!

We are happy to announce some fantastic events to keep your summer busy and to help support your local community. With all of us looking for ways to maximize our short summer season here are some things that are fun for the whole family.

This weekend...

Beautiful Gloucester, Massachusetts

Join us on Saturday August 15th, and Sunday August 16th at the Castleberry Craft Festival in beautiful Gloucester, MA.

In this 29th year of this free event there will be hundreds of artists, crafters, live music, and a great variety of foods including the famous "lobsta" bake. Live craft demonstrations, a pancake breakfast and antique cars ensure this oceanside event will keep your whole family busy!

Next Weekend...

This is a wonderful event for our locals in the Burlington Vermont area. Get out and play for a cause on August 22nd!

Our friends at the Stern Center for Language and Learning are a nonprofit foundation that helps children and adults who struggle with reading, writing and mathematics. They evaluate and teach over 1,000 children and adults each year including those with learning disabilities, dyslexia, language disorders, autism, attention deficit disorders, and learning style differences.

They are hosting the Family Fun Festival on Saturday August 22nd at the Shelburne Town Fields and Gym. Your attendance will not only inspire you and your family with rocket building and launches, a block structure building contest, great live music and food, it will also help to raise money for scholarships to help people of all ages. There will be events all throughout the day and this will be an especially fun filled day for your little ones with tons to do! Their raffle and prizes are impressive, at only $10 a ticket and only 100 of each sold. See the details below.

  • One Night for Two at the Blueberry Hill Inn in Goshen, Vermont donated by Blueberry Hill Inn
  • Two tickets directly behind the Montreal bench to a regular season home hockey game at The Bell Center donated by Anonymous
  • 2008 Burton King Snowboard 153
  • Hot Air Balloon Ride for two donated by Above Reality Hot Air Balloon Rides and JMM & Associates
  • A three-course meal prepared for up to six people in your home donated by Brick City Gourmet
  • Spa at the Essex (details to follow)
Enjoy a fabulous day of activities and in doing so help to raise scholarship funds for the Stern Center programs!

Also on August 22nd and 23rd...

We will be enjoying another oceanside craft event in gorgeous Bar Harbor, Maine. This one might end up being less work and more vacation time for me, but the Castleberry Craft Festival at the College of the Atlantic will be full of a great variety of handmade goodies if you are in the area. The show is free admission and is nearly in Acadia National Park, another great reason to schedule a family getaway!

New ikebana's!
These adorable little flower vases are an explosion of summer colors that are carefully fused and then slumped to form their shape. They have a small metal circle of pins in the bottom that will allow you to explore your flower arranging fantasies! This Japanese style of flower and plant arrangement is traditionally called ikebana,

"more than simply putting flowers in a container, ikebana is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together.
Contrary to the idea of floral arrangement as a collection of particolored or multicolored arrangement of blooms, ikebana often emphasizes other areas of the plant, such as its stems and leaves, and draws emphasis towards shape line and form."

Taste of Stowe Arts Festival
July 24th, 25th & 26th at Topnotch Field in Stowe, Vermont. It will showcase 150 Artisans and crafters, these exhibitors embody the slogan “locally made.” They all work in their own studios creating, designing, and making their products. This show is the largest assemblage of two dimensional Art in Vermont, due in large part to the 40 artists sponsored by the Helen Day Art Center. All three dimensional media are also represented including clay, glass, leather, jewelry, metal, wood, wearable and non-wearable fiber, sculpture, and other categories The ensemble makes for creative shopping and the region’s best art/craft show.
